A beef tomato or beefsteak tomato is one of the largest varieties of cultivated tomatoes some weighing up to 450 grams or more.
Most are pink or red with numerous small seed compartments distributed throughout the fruit, sometimes displaying pronounced ribbing. They are popular among home growers for beef sandwich toppings and other applications requiring a large tomato such as toppings on large steaks. They are very juicy and meaty with enhanced taste and perfect for slicing. Tomatoes are generally rich in Vitamin C and A and full of fiber. Tomatoes are also noted for containing the antioxidant compound lycopene, which may help protect against prostate cancer and heart disease.
